10 New Prints!!!

While I've Been pretty quiet on the blog lately, I've been busy this last month preparing artwork for digital prints. Each image was selected from my various series of illustrations over the past few years, carefully scanned at hi-rez and color corrected to match the original artwork as closely as possible. Then printed on 140lb French MuscleTone Paper using an archival ink Epson R2880 printer. I'm very excited to offer these prints in my etsy shop http://www.diskgrunt.etsy.com  as of today!!!

Indian Beach 2015

It's been a long time since I've made a post here, I'm currently going through through the books, and scanning and editing, so expect to see more soon. Till then, I thought I'd share this recent sketch I made on an impromptu trip down to the Oregon Coast. Indian Beach is a great little hiden gem for surfers, hikers and beach goers. Just far enough north of canon beach to keep the crowds low, but not so far that it's a hassle to get to.
More monsters, rats, and drunk'n drawings coming soon!

NYC PostCard Project!

I spent about 10 weeks in NYC for work. While I was there I gathered up a list of names and addresses from my friends and started the NYC PostCard project. While I had grand intentions to complete about 30y of these, I only ended up with about 10 of them. Most of which have been mailed and received at this point. Each card was hand drawn on Water Color postcard paper with Copic Markers. Some took longer then others, and I certainly like some more then others, but over all I'm pretty happy with the end results, and for the folks that got them, they seem to be to.

If you were on my list, and didn't receive a postcard, don't fret! I'll be continuing the project, seeking inspiration where ever I happen to be, until I finish each on of these guys. Till then, thanks for keeping me on the look out for the inspiration that's all around me.

Second Ave was my primary subway stop as I traveled often via the F train to mid-town and brooklyn. Being in the LES was great, both in terms of accessibility to the rest of the city and in nightlife, restaurants and booze soaked bars.

I found this bike outside of a lovely little cocktail bar called "Subject" While typically pretty busy on a weekend, this bar was a favorite haunt on the quieter Sunday through Wednesday nights. My first visit here was actually in January, and that bike was sitting there then, and it's still there as of my last visit. If you stop in, get to know Brian and Matt, both excellent gentleman with a keen ability to wip up tasty cocktails.

Brooklyn Broadway Stop. Really I just wanted to explore the colors here, it never ceases to amaze me how tidy the train stations in Manhattan are ( at least in the tourist sections) compared to Brooklyn.

This cheer full elephant greeted me most sunny days when I'd skip the F and walk down to the Bleeker St. Stop. Honestly when you're traveling during NYC  rush hour, skipping as many transfers as you can by walking is a great way to save your sanity.

The company I work for took up temporary residence over in the Chelsea district, this view I found when I snuck out on the fire escape to smoke.

While pretty pricey, the Nomad bar offers some serious cocktails of new and yore. This is the view from the restaurant you have to walk through to get to the first of 3 bars. Worth the visit if you've got some cash to drink.

This little guy was kind of inspired by The Library bar, which quickly became a favorite haunt of mine. Full of amazing and friendly bartenders and patrons, it's one of the oldest dives left in LES. I never actually saw any rats there btw =)

I noticed this scrawled on a electric box, and it happened to be on my way to Subject bar, so I passed it frequently. I've seen it in a couple other spots around the city, but not sure as to it's origin or meaning. So I'm left to ponder, and presented in this case as what I would consider the worst case, a final plea for help from someone the city ran over.

These steam pipes are all over the city, and while I wrote some silly stuff about why they are, it seems they are a pretty crucial part of the city as you can see/learn here.

Diving into 2015

I wanted to start the year diving into some bigger projects. So for the last 7 days I've cashed in some PTO and have been working on some larger panels for the Wandering Monster series of drawings. Below is a quick time lapse that pretty much summarizes what I've been up to.

I've probably have another month or so on this project, but I'm almost done drawing and outlining the boards.  Next comes color! Stay tuned.

The Explorer End of Year Update

As 2013 winds down, I'm excited to announce that my Explorer project is getting closer to a final form. I've been working out this piece since about April of last year, and over the past several months, I think I finally have the story I want to tell.

I decided to take a few moments and scan in some updated concept images to share, and I hope by the end of this week to have more finished work. I'm still debating on what that will be, and how to get there, but there will be a book, and there will be screen printing involved. More on that in the New Year! Till then, take a look ( and the new and the old if you haven't seen them) and let me know what you think.

The Explorer

I've been cranking away at sketches for a new concept, "The Explorer." I don't quite have the story worked out, or if it will even be a standard narrative, but I'm fascinated with the concept right now. I'm also not sure how I'll actually make the finished work, but for now I'm sketching with pencil, pen, ink and coloring with copic markers. Which I'm really enjoying working my ideas out with.

In case my scrawl is to messy, the text box under the title "The Explorer" says " I was searching for something, but I don't remember what... Did I already find it? Should I keep going?" As I continue to sort out the imagery and story, i'll update more.

As always, thanks for looking around.

Resting Place - 2013 Chair Affair Poster

This will mark my 3rd year participating in the Community Warehouse's Chair Affair Event. Last year I created a poster called "Pieces of Home," that quickly sold out during the silent auction, and the year before a night stand called "Night Yeti."

This year I decided to create another series of posters called "Resting Place." I hand screen printed each of the 20 12" x 18" posters, that feature my original illustration/design, using water based inks, on 140lb French Construction paper. If you'd like to get your hands on one, you'll have to attend the Chair Affair event on March 21, 2013. You can get tickets here.

If you want to learn more about the Community Warehouse and why they are great organization to support, check out this awesome video!

Chair Affair 2012 Poster Art - Pieces of Home

It's almost time for the Community Warehouse's 2012 Chair Affair. Last year I created a piece I called the Night Yeti. This year I decided to do a limited run of 12 screen printed posters, called "Pieces of Home". Each hand pulled print features several of my illustrations of various items that the Community Warehouse collects from donators, and redistributes to families and persons in need. Each poster was printed using water based non-toxic inks on 12" x 18" French 140lb Construction paper. There is a 1/2" boarder for easy framing and they are signed and numbered on the back. You'll can purchase one of these poster during the Chair Affair Event on March 15, 2012!

Be sure to check out their website for ticket details, and to see see all the great work other artist have contributed to their worthy cause.

Drink and Draw - Invade!

I had a pretty long day at the part time, afterwards I headed over to Moonshine to get a nip of whiskey and a burger. I also got a quick lil doodle in. I was hoping to do more, but being 1 AM, the whiskey, beer back and burger set me on straight course for bed.
