ButtEyed Monster
I've been home sick the last couple days and have been catching up on podcast while recovering from what seems to be a fun bout of allergy f.u.... There's a great RadioLab podcast they just released on Parasites and this is the lil critter that got conjured up as a result of listening in. Check out the podcast, there's some fascinating stuff, like how your fondness of your cat may actually be the result of you being a victim of Toxoplasmosis...

Cautionary Tales of Modern Failure Volume #2 - W.I.P.
Above is the last frame of "Cautionary Tales of Modern Failure Volume #1" A smoking fish. In Volume #2 we pick right up were we left off with Smokey the Fish floating in what seems to be an endless void. I've decided as I work on the art for this edition I'm going to post various elements beginning with the first, roughed out, 10 panels of the next story in the Cautionary Tales of Modern Failure series. I'm sure a lot will change from now and my self imposed deadline of October 1, 2009, and I hope that I will be posting at least weekly on the progress of this story. So with out further adieu I humbly present the first bits of "The Tortoise and the Meteorite".

This story has been on my back burner for years. A while back I completed the following painting to help spur on the completion of this work. Thoughts always welcome, and if you're interested in Volume #1 you can purchase it via my Etsy store.

Get over here toes!
Lately my back has been giving me some grief so I've been trying to stretch stuff back out via some yin yoga techniques and staying away from the desk chairs and lifting heavy things ( more on that in a later post). I'm always amazed at how hard some of the simplest poses are, I really do need to make this a more regular practice.

Pencycle
So as my job prepares to move to a new local, I have been inspired to get some cleanup done in my home/workspace. My art follows me around, never accepting to be in only one room, space, drawer, shelf, bread box, pillow case, butter dish or were ever I may designate. And as such, I wonder, what should I do with these bits. I've come to one conclusion, they need to be recycled in some fashion. I'm trying to come up with some rules for the process of selecting what stays and what goes.In the past I've actually made sketch book scrap books, cutting the best stuff out for use later. The prime stuff ended up on a cork board and most of that ended up in oils. I Now I think I need to just scan more and more and more and let my hd clutter. But scanning the past 6 years worth of ary seems a daunting task and a lot less cathartic then just making a pile and removing it from my life.
So how do you deal with your mountain of sketchpads, old or never finished art and supporting pieces? Should I just craigslist for an intern to scan and document all my scattered bits? And afterwards what really is the best end for a piece of sketch paper?

Hollow - Illustration Friday Submission
I've been to two funerals in my life along with 3 wakes and the way we reshape, paint and display our dead has always bothered me. The empty vessels sitting still in the caskets, wearing suits they never would have bought, hair done up in a different style and faces covered in makeup they most certainly would never have worn, never brought me much solace or comfort when seeing them.

Allergies
No sooner do I return to PDX then my allergies decide to go haywire again. It seriously feels like a cat is using the back of my throat as a scratching post...
